Chase Field's roof malfunctions ahead of D-backs' home opener

The Diamondbacks had issues opening the roof at Chase Field ahead of their 2019 home opener against the Boston Red Sox on Friday.

The roof had been scheduled to be open for the 4:10 p.m. game. The temperature outside Chase Field was 81 degrees at first pitch.

azcentral sports' Nick Piecoro reported that the roof got stuck and that the Diamondbacks were aware of the issue. A club official said an electrical issue caused the problem.

The left side of the roof seemed to open normally during pre-game festivities but the right side never budged. Once the ceremonies concluded, the left side of the roof was closed, too, before first pitch.

The roof seemed to be fully operational during the club's exhibition series against the Chicago White Sox during March 25-26.

As reported by The Republic in February, the Diamondbacks took responsibility for all stadium maintenance and event booking last May as part of a deal with Maricopa County.

According to the report, as of February the Diamondbacks had made almost no repairs since taking control of Chase Field operations.
